Smallcombe Vale Cemetery served the ward of Bathwick from 1861 and was administered by the Bathwick Burial Board. It catered for both Anglicans and nonconformists, the plot being split in two by marker stones. The cemetery contains an octagonal nonconformist mortuary chapel. (Anglicans could use the chapel in the adjacent St Mary’s churchyard.) There were over 2,000 burials and about 250 memorials. It ‘closed’ in 1937 when Haycombe became to sole municipal cemetery.
