Description

Twerton Cemetery dates from 1882. It closed in 1937 when Haycombe Cemetery opened as Bath’s sole municipal cemetery. There have been over 8,000 burials and there are about 800 memorials. In common with other ward-based cemeteries the plot is divided into ‘consecrated' (ie Anglican) and ‘unconsecrated’ areas, although there is only one mortuary chapel. The graves are arranged in a grid. Many of the graves are common/public ones. Bath Record Office’s Bath Burial Index (https://www.batharchives.co.uk/burial-index) has online documentation by Phil Bendall for this cemetery including images of the memorials and maps.
