Description
Locksbrook cemetery is in fact three cemeteries serving the wards/parishes of 1) Walcot (>29,000 burials), 2) St Saviour’s (>4,000 burials) which opened in 1864 and 3) Weston (>5,000 burials) which opened in 1877. The burial registers for the three sections are separate. In common with other ward-based cemeteries that were created around 1860 there are separate Anglican and nonconformist sections (and chapels), although this distinction is not clear on the ground (unlike some other cemeteries where there is this separation). It was ‘closed’ in 1937 when Haycombe cemetery opened as Bath’s sole municipal cemetery.
Bath Record Office’s Bath Burial Index (https://www.batharchives.co.uk/) has online documentation produced by Phil Bendall for this cemetery based on the indexes to the burial registers as well a draft maps of the different areas and sections. These records include all those buried not just the minority with memorials.
