Description

Lucas Cemetery was destroyed in 1948 and Restored in 1952 There were other members of the Lucas Family that were located in this cemetery. taken from the book Tombstone Inscriptions of Limestone County Alabama compiled by Linda Smith John Hobbs Lucas owned and operated Lucas Ferry south of Buelah Land and build on of the finest brick houses in the county at that place. it was torn down by Tennessee Valley Authority. Other children of Edmond and Flora Lucas were Lillian Lucas, 1858-1932 (Buried in Hartselle) Charles Stuart Lucas CSA, (Buried in Athens) and Hubbard R Lucas 1845-1866 died in a prisoner of war camp, Chase Ohio and buried there. There are 2 additional African American cemeteries located south east of this locatin, TVA survey map showed this cemetery contained about 30 graves.
