This monument displays Salt Lake City's first burial site. However, there were very few burials in it, as Salt Lake City Cemetery was opened in the early 1850's. Most bodies were reinterred in either the Salt Lake City Cemetery, or at This is the Place Heritage Park. A marker for the cemetery is on the southwest corner of 200 West and 300 South, which was the northeast corner of Block 49. The graves were 200 feet south and 30 feet west of the monument.
