Description

The religious history of the site goes back to the 13th century. The present church was built in 1795 on the site of an earlier church and is an excellent example of a rural late 18th century parish church. Interesting gravestones, including Archibald Bulloch from whom President Theodore Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt descended, as well as Magnus Magnusson a well-known UK TV personality, Icelander and ‘Mastermind’ quizmaster and Michael Martin (Lord Martin of Springburn) former Speaker at the House of Commons is interred here. The original cemetery was full, so additional space was found adjacent on the east side of Craigmaddie Road and all burials from the 1970’s onwards are located within this section.
