Freed Slaves: Dawson Alexander purchased fifty acres of land in 1873, which bordered the property of A. Alexander, J. Alexander and A. Alexander. Of the fifty acres, Dawson sold seven acres to the Trustees of Zion Hill African Methodist Church in 1880. The Trustees were family members by blood and/or marriage or from the free slave community which had married into the family. As of 2018 descendants of the Alexander families are buried there.
