Truganina Cemetery and the surrounding area was named after an aboriginal woman named Truganini, born around 1812 and believed to the last full-blooded Tasmania Indigenous Australian. This small and historic cemetery includes an area reserved for the protection of endangered native plant species endemic to the area. While once surrounded by a small but social town, the area is now defined by former church buildings, a recreation reserve, a former Air Raid Precautions shelter and Truganina Cemetery itself.
