Cemetery Description

Sambusky Cemetery
The Sambusky Jewish paupers’ cemetery, is an abandoned cemetery on the slopes of Mount Zion, in Jerusalem. Named after the sambusak, the pastry of the poor, the Sambusky Cemetery contains the graves of thousands of Jerusalem’s poor who were buried there over the past several centuries. This forgotten and desecrated cemetery, which was neglected for generations has only lately gained attention and been cleaned up following many years of research and persistent effort of the recently deceased Doron Herzog, teacher and tour guide from Jerusalem.
