The River View Cemetery lies adjacent to Washburn to the east and north of Highway 83, on a sloping height overlooking the Missouri River. It was formly a part of the farmland and homestead of steamboat captain Sam Lehman. Since 1883, a small plot of the Lehman acreage has been used as a cemetery. The first burial was early Washburn pioneer Lorenzo Merry’s daughter, Azetta (Merry) Todd and infant granddaughter. A number of graves actually existed before the cemetery was formally established as the River View Cemetery. Note: some names and dates were researched on Find A Grave.
