Description

The burial ground of the Primitive Methodist Church on Old Church Street at the north end of the village of Laskay has one remaining marker. The church has been converted into a private home and the marker is located east of this building. The cemetery has been closed for some time, and it is believed that most of the graves have been re-interred in the King City Cemetery. The church was established about 1852 on land donated by Joseph Baldwin for a church, parsonage and graveyard. Mr. Baldwin died in 1882 and was buried in this graveyard. The Baldwin plot was later moved to the Aurora Cemetery. The church, originally Primitive Methodist became Wesleyan Methodist about 1900. At the time of church union in 1925, this congregation joined the United Church of Canada.
