Description

This is a rural cemetery located between farms on the western side of the Firth of Thames in the Hauraki District. It is situated on the southern side of Miranda Road which connects Miranda and Mangatangi. It is approximately 1.5km from Miranda and 10.4km from Mangatangi. Access is gained through a roadside gate and down a long well formed gravel driveway. You can park at a carpark at the beginning of the driveway or within the cemetery which has a roundabout. There are body burials, ash burials and a raised ash garden. The cemetery is laid out in blocks (rows) starting from A on the left side. There is a War Memorial for local men who gave their lives in WWI and WWII located within the driveway roundabout. The cemetery is well maintained and remains in use with less than half the cemetery used. The first burial was John Findlay in 1907. The cemetery is administered by the Hauraki District Council. They have online cemetery records for research https://www.hauraki-dc.govt.nz/services/cemeteries/cemetery-search.
