Description

Along the Wyomissing Avenue at 322 South in Shillington at the curb line is a tombstone, erected in memory to Christian Miller and his heirs. They are buried in the middle of South Wyomissing Avenue where the family burial plot was located amidst an apple orchard. For years, traffic on the road from Shillington to Mohnton skirted around the graveyard, but conditions became very hazardous for the drivers. In 1923, Shillington borough council was granted the right to remove the graveyard and leave the remains resting in the middle of the street. The gravesite was macadamed over and a marker was placed in the curb line to mark the location. This marker bears the inscription: "Daniel Miller, who arrived from Europe in this country in the year 1750, and also of Christian Miller and relatives of the Miller family." (Governor Mifflin Area History. Governor Mifflin Historical Society.)
