In the hills above the country township of Kumara, lies the old cemetery which is surrounded by pine plantations. In the Kumara cemetery are graves of people of the many different nationalities who resided in the area in its earliest day, including English, Irish, Swiss, Swedish, German, American and others, many of whom came to join the gold-rush in the area.
