At a meeting of Forest Town Council on 6 July 1888 a committee was formed to find and purchase a suitable site for a public cemetery. Prior to this the burial grounds in Forest consisted of: The Old Burial Ground, The Anglican Cemetery, The Roman Catholic Cemetery and the Bradley Cemetery. On 14 May 1889 the Corporation of the Town of Forest purchased 10 acres in the north half of lot 37 south boundary concession in Bosanquet Township, Lambton County, Ontario. The property cost $900 and was named Beechwood Cemetery.
