THIS CEMETERY IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY AND NOT ACCESSABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. DIRECT DESCENDANTS HAVE FULL ACCESS. This is an African American community cemetery established ca.1900. Community Elders state, "if you were Black and had no place to bury your dead; you could bury them at the Brick Mill Cemetery." This cemetery, on official records, is also referred to Brick House, Brick Yard and The Old Black Cemetery. It is the largest all African American community cemetery within Onslow County, North Carolina. Burials have been ongoing since ca.1900. The most recent was in the Fall of 2014. There are not-less-than 850 confirmed burials within this cemetery. Due to decades of mismanagement and inconsistent care, there remains less then 30% of graves with headstone or, metal name plates. Jack Robinson is the exclusive caretaker for this cemetery. The local Black community has trusted him to care for their Ancestors. He does all of the labor, research and confirming unmarked graves at his own expense.
