Description

This small cemetery on a surface of 2.200 square meters has 321 graves of russian soldiers who died in the first world war in the prison camp of Puchheim which was situated on the old air base of Puchheim. After ending of the second world war, some of the russian prisoners stayed in the camp because of the changed political climate in Russia. A lot of the prisoners died due the influenca epidemy ("spanische Grippe") of 1918-1919. From the original 550 persons who where buried in the period between 1915 and 1919 321 russian soldiers remained in the cemetery. The other 230 persons were englisch, italian and french soldiers who were exhumated after the war and brought back to their home country. The cemetery is only on 3 days a year opened for the public. On 1st of November a russian-orthodox memorial service is made annually in the cemetery .
