J.B. Smith, 78, of Duncan died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, in Duncan. Service
will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in New Hope Baptist Church West with the Rev.
Randy Southerland officiating. Burial will be in Temple Cemetery under the
direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home of Walters. Mr. Smith was born Aug.
27, 1924, in Walters, to Charlie Lynn and Zelda Iodine Pierce Smith. He
grew up in the Walters area and graduated from Walters High School.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S.
Navy.
He married Betty Lou Peggy Richardson on July 6, 1946. She preceded him
in death on Nov. 27, 2002.
The Smiths made their home in Duncan, where J.B. worked as an oilfield
pumper for 36 years before retiring from AMOCO.
Mr. Smith enjoyed all sports, especially fishing and golf, and loved
watching sports on television. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church
West and had been ordained as a deacon many years ago.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd E. Gene and
Kathy Smith of Duncan, Gary Lynn and Kay Smith of Carrollton, Texas, Jay
Michael and Danna Smith of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren, Gina
Rodriguez and her husband, Eddie, of McKinney, Texas, Steven Smith and his
wife, Lori, of Lockhart, Texas, Staci Smith of Stillwater, April Gailley
and her husband, Shane, of Carrollton, Jason Smith and his wife, Laine, of
Dallas, Texas, Bridget Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and Clay Smith and his
wife, Shala, of Richards, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Caden
Gailley, Eliah Rodriguez and Abigail Smith.
