- Kenneth Bynum Sr., 66, of Kissimmee, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at
Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee. Born April 24, 1936, in
Winston-Salem, N.C., son of the Rev. Charles Gideon Bynum and Iva
Dillard Bynum, he was a criminologist in Washington, D.C., and captain
in the department of corrections within the District of Columbia
government. He was a member of the Local Branch No. 1550 of the American
Federal Government Employees Union, a member of the Mecca Temple No.
10, AEAONMS Drill Team, was past master of the Doric Lodge No. 19,
member of the Free and Accepted Masons Prince Hall the Eastern Star,
PHA, in Florida. He was a member of the Kissimmee Lodge No. 68, F.&
A.M. and was elected worthy patron of Golden Light Chapter No. 108,
OESPHA. He was a union president who battled for workers' rights, better
salaries and safety, and was an Army veteran. Survivors include his
wife, Ann; sons, William P. Ellison and Robert W. "Behop" Tyler,;
daughters, Linda M. Bynum, Gwendolyn C. Hill, Karen D. Thompson,
Jacqueline B. Munford, Annette F. Ellison and Vivian L. Davis; sisters,
Frances Bacon and Louise "Lucy" Symonette; brothers, Charles, John,
George, Clayborn (his twin) and Edward; cousin, Frances M. Hunter; 18
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his first wife, Gwendolyn R. Bynum, and son, Kenneth Bynum Jr. Services
were held Aug. 12, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Kissimmee
with the Rev. Johnny McKinnie, pastor, officiating. Burial was at the
Harmony Memorial Park in Landover, Md. Conrad and Thompson Funeral Home,
Kissimmee, was in charge of local arrangements.
