- John L. Martin, 77, of Flamingo Lake Drive, Kissimmee, died June 30 at James A. Hailey Veteran Hospital in Tampa from Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he moved to the area from there in 1979. He was retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years, was an Army veteran of World War II and was an ex-POW who was captured in the Battle of the Bulge. He served seven months in a POW camp in Germany. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, POW medal and many other medals. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 221, DAV Chapter 148, both of Kissimmee, and Ex-Pow Club War World II of Central Florida. He was a Methodist. Survivors include his wife, Doris Martin, Kissimmee; and sister, Marion Sandel, Staten Island, N.Y. Services were held July 3 from Grissom Funeral Home with the Rev. Carolyn Strack of Peace Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Florida National Cemetery with full military honors. Grissom Funeral Home, Kissimmee, was in charge of arrangements.
