Julius Martell
Julius Martell, 99, Topeka, died Monday, Feb. 29, 1988, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born April 12, 1888, in Italy, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Martell. He moved to the United States in 1906 and lived in Topeka more than 60 years.
He was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a life member of Local No. 1445 of the Carpenters Union.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Wilmington, Del., March 8, 1918, and was discharged Sept. 9, 1919, in Colorado. He served in the medical corps. He was a member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion.
He was married to Florence Bergren June 12, 1923, at Salina. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Julius N. Martell, Topeka; and two grandchildren.
Service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capper Foundation for Crippled Children, 3500 W. 10th, 66604.

Florence Lilly Martell
Florence Lilly Martell, 93, Topeka, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1993, at a Topeka nursing home.
She was born Apr. 7, 1899, in Falun, the daughter of John E. and Selma Bergren. She lived in Topeka since 1923.
Mrs. Martell attended business school in Salina. She worked for an insurance company in McPherson and Beatrice Creamery in Topeka.
She was a member of the auxiliary to Local No. 1445 of the Carpenters Union and served as treasurer of the auxiliary many years.
She was married to Julius Martell June 12, 1923, in Salina. He died Feb. 29, 1968.
Survivors include a son, Julius N. Martell, Topeka; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
