Abraham Synnes 1874-1943

Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church in Clearbrook on Saturday, February 6th, for A.P. Synnes, 68 years old. Mr. Synnes passed away Saturday, January 30th, at Coeur d'Arlene, Idaho, and death was caused by heart failure.

He was employed at the naval base there and about to go to the point of activity, being seated in a bus, when suddenly he was stricken and died at once.

Mr. Synnes was born in Stevens Point, Minnesota, on August 12th, 1874, his parents being Arnt P. Synnes and Susanna Synnes, who came to the United States in the early days before steam ships were in use. They made the voyage in a sailing vessel which took

Soon after their arrival they settled in Stevens County, where the family made their home until the year 1890, when Abraham, as he was commonly called, went with his brother, John P. Synnes, to a place 15 miles north of Fosston, which became the latter's home for six years, and where Abraham also stayed much of the time. In 1896, when the Red Lake Reservation was opened for settlement, both John and Abraham took homesteads in Pine Lake Township, Clearwater County, with Fosston as the nearest trading point or market.

He lived on this homestead until 1913, when he moved with the family to another place southeast of Clearbrook.

His health being poor for many years, he finally decided to go to Idaho in August, 1942. Still feeling the urge of activity, he got a job at the naval base there, where his career ended.

Mr. Synnes was married in the year 1901 to Anna Brevig, of Renville County, and raised a family of five, who are: Arthur, now in Idaho, Reuben and Mildred of Clearbrook, George of the U.S. Signal Corps and Clifford of Long Beach, California.

Other survivors are his wife, three grandchildren, Earl, Alice and Edith; a sister, Mrs. Christianson of Willmar, Minnesota; two nephews, Albert A. Synnes of Gonvick and Helmer A. Synnes of Raymond, Washington; four nieces, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Funkley of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. Jo Harty of Portland, Oregon; and Mrs. E.. Dorgan of Spokane, Washington; all of the brother's family. Also two nieces, Mrs. Emma Anderson of Seattle, Washington, and Mrs. Sanna Ellesusen of Minneapolis, both of his sister's family
