From Ray’s writing: “Some things that I remember from my “boyhood days.” •Living in a dirt-roofed house until the new house was built (Albion Idaho) •Trapping squirrels—the bounty was 1 cent a tail •Trapping muskrats, caught a mink •Watching neighbors trap skunks •My experience at 8 years old, with a coyote—He hid behind some grass in a playful mood •Catching crayfish in Marsh Creek •Sitting on a shed roof watching a bull fight •Building a swimming hole in the creek •Collecting bird eggs (hobby) •Walking 2 ½ miles to school •1st grade Mrs. Jefferies, 2nd Mrs. Hoffman, 3rd Mrs. Judson, 4th ??? 5th Miss Durham ---all in Albion Idaho •5th grade—Miss McGuire in Daniel, Miss Ogiler in Heber, Miss Justson in Provo •6th grade—none, Junior High—Provo •Our move from Idaho to Provo: one four-horse team, one single team, 2 extra horses, 1 mule, 2 dogs, Father, Clark, Lindsay and I. •1st aeroplane—Salt Lake •Father’s accident

Dad & Mom Interview with Joanne Mattinson & Sally Holt—1-20-13 Dad l. Ray always took Inez Ivory’s boys to all the fathers’ & sons’ outings. 2. When we moved in, he was the one that got us going to church. (Her parents were Nell & Bill Mattinson & also Faye’s parents) 3. Ray sponsored the man from Iran when he came here to learn soil conservation; he lived in our basement, but Ray mentored him. 4. Ray was a counselor to 2 bishops we remember: Bishop Harold Harmer & Bishop Harold Hawker. 5. Temple Preparation Classes for couples Jack & Jackie Miller, Harry & Shirley Hardman, Joann & Jake Madsen, Howard & Betty Provstgaard, Holly & Norm Broadhead, Jess & Lois Lazenby, Joanne Mattinson (Lois made my shield and attended the temple with me—so sweet 6. 16th ward together for 17 years; 2nd ward for ? years (now the 14th Ward meets in the green church) 7. Ray loved to sing and formed a men’s singing groups: a. Jess Lazenby, Bob Barney, Harry Hardman, & Daddy b. Mendelssohn Choir c. The Utah Valley Good-time Singers (they were men that loved to sing and wanted additional singing beyond Mendelssohn). Dad put this group together with the help of a couple of others. 8. Ray passed off merit badges for scouts. (Soil conservation & others) 9. They both delivered fruit & honey to neighbors. Mom 1. R.S. president—took care of everything needed—Edna Taylor, Geneva Montague, Irene Hendrickson, Grace Montague were either counselors or/and Relief Society co-workers 2. Rugs - - they made for everyone 3. Canned every fruit and vegetable available 4. Sewed all of our clothes and was very fussy about “the fitting” 5. Made beautiful quilts and did beautiful quilting
