Ray Lee Myrup (Lee), 84, of Farr West, Utah, passed away on April 27, 2014. He was born to Ray H. and Thelma Myrup on September 6, 1929 in Centerfield, UT.

He was raised in Gunnison, Utah, and graduated from Gunnison High School. From a young age, Lee learned the importance of hard work, integrity, and the value of his word.

Lee married his beloved, Jean Tucker, on January 16, 1951, and the marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Logan temple.

Shortly after their marriage, Lee was drafted into the Army. Jean joined him in Fort Worden, Washington, during his initial military training until he was deployed. During the Korean War, Lee served on a boat surveying islands in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he was introduced to his son Richard who was born while he was in the islands.

Lee and Jean moved to Layton, Utah, in 1953, and Lee began his long civil service career at HAFB, beginning as a flight mechanic and retiring as a logistics’ system analyst. After their daughter Debra was born in 1954, Lee and Jean moved to Kaysville. He was a member of the Kaysville JCs, and if you’ve ever seen the Christmas star on the mountain east of Kaysville, you’ve seen some of Lee’s handiwork. Lee and Jean welcomed their third child, a surprise blessing, Kimberly in June 1972. He and Jean moved to Farmington in 1975. In every city they called home, they made life-long friends.

After Lee retired, he and Jean set off on an adventure as relief managers for Motel 6 and traveled throughout Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Colorado. They finally settled in Farr West, Utah. After leaving Motel 6, Lee worked for Convergys on their Y2K readiness program. Lee’s later years were filled with honey-do projects and children and grandchildren always in need for him to fix something, share his wisdom, or simply offer his love.

Lee is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean, and three children: Richard Myrup, West Point; Debra Robins, Kaysville; and Kimberly (Adam) Flint, Layton; six grandchildren: Emit (Jennifer) Robins, Jessica Myrup, and Zachary, Caden, Addison, and Maycie Flint; three great grandchildren: Lucy, Maggie and Phoebe Robins; his brothers Gary Myrup and Theldon (Penny) Myrup; sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and all their children who looked at Lee as their own brother, dad, or grandpa. Lee was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

An informal, open memorial gathering to pay respect and say farewell to Lee will be held at Jensen Nature Park, 3176 S. Bluff Rd., Syracuse, on Saturday, May 10, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Come and share your experience of this exceptional man and his life.
