Peter Michael Jensen

Peter Michael Jensen is my grandfather. He is my mothers father. My middle names comes from my grandfathers name. I remember my grandfather as a very kind gentle man. My earliest recollection of him was when I moved to Provo, Utah. We would visit him in Orem on special occasions. It wasn't until we moved to Orem in about 1955 that I remember him the best. We lived in the same neighborhood as him. Only four houses away. He would stop in and see us almost every morning on his way to work. He worked at DTR's furniture store in Provo. {Dixon, Taylor Russell) on the corner of 300 West and Center street in Provo. He had an upstairs office. It was always fun to stop by and see him because we got to ride the elevator up to his office. I believe he did the accounting for the store. It was always memorable for the 4th of July to come around. We would meet at the store with my aunts and uncles and cousins to watch the big parade. We had cap guns and got to play with the cousins. Seems like we would head to the parks in Prove for a picnic after the parades. We usually went to Pioneer Park that was located on 500 West Center Street. We would meet with Aunt Ardy and Uncle Carl and Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Bill. My Uncle Peter Kay Lived in Manhattan Beach, California. We would gather at my grandpas house on the other regular occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day the 4th of July and the 24th of July. The cousins would always show up and we always had so much fun. I remember visiting my grandpas house and always having some of the best but simple food. I got my love and craving for real maple syrup in the Log Cabin Tins and I loved the scrambles Eggs done in lots of real butter. I loved my grandpa. I remember the day that he passed away from a heart attack. He was only 63 years old. As I write these memories I am 64. I remember going to the viewing to see him for the very last time. I was sad. The day of the funeral we gathered in the mortuary to have the family prayer before the funeral. All I can remember about that day was after the prayer when they closed the casket I literally could not breath. I could not get a breath of air and I remember telling my mother that I could not breath. My grandpas death really had an effect on me. I missed him a lot. What a great man and I am so glad that my parents named me after my Grandpa, Peter Michael Jensen. I look forward to seeing him again.
