Body Found on Roadside
An inquest was opened on Thursday by the deputy coroner (Mr. W. R. Reid, J.P.) into the death of Mrs, Mary Brain, aged 59 years, of Gong Gong road, Warrenheip,whose body was found on the roadside on Wednesday afternoon. Near by was the horse and cart she had been driving. Alfred Ernest Brain, husband of the dead woman, said that he and his wife had driven to Ballarat, and on the return journey in the afternoon his wife had driven alone for the latter part of the journey while he had walked across to the store at Brown Hill. His wife appeared to be in good health, but six months be- fore had been under treatment at the base hospital for low-seated indigestion. The deputy coroner directed a post-mortem examination to bo made, and adjourned, the inquest to a date to be fixed.
