Many friends will learn with regret of the death yesterday of Mrs Mary Barnes, widow of the late Joseph Barnes, aged 86. The late Mrs Barnes was born at Atherstone, Warwickshire, England, in February 1839. She was married in 1860 at Atherstone and lived at Utoxeter, Staffordshire until Mr and Mrs Barnes came to New Zealand by the ship Oxford in 1883. They came to Masterton and settled down in Victoria street, in which street Mrs Barnes has lived ever since. She had enjoyed very good health up to the end. On Monday and Tuesday of this week she was out walking. Mr Barnes, who died about 19 years ago, was an accountant. The family, who will have the sympathy of many friends, are:- Mrs W. Saunders, Mrs E. Welch, Mr T. W. Barnes (all of Lansdowne), Mr J. J. Barnes (Victoria street) and Mrs F. Fellingham (Lansdowne).
