10 Things you don't know about my dad Geneal Hadlock 22/19/2013

Contributor: DdraigGoch Created: 7 months ago Updated: 7 months ago

1. He had so many friends, some old enough to be his dad and some younger than his kids. 2. He made everyone feel like they were his best friend. 3. So easy to talk to, once you started talking with him you did not want to leave. 4. Loved the outdoors. He knew every little town in Utah. 5. Played high school football, got scholarships to several colleges but turned them down to marry his high school sweetheart, Rhea Norton Hadlock. 6. Very musical, loved to sing, play his guitar, (had same guitar since he was 15). He taught himself to play. 7. He was so funny. Even his silly, stupid jokes, the way he presented them was hilarious. 8. Great dancer, he could moon walk! I remember when I was little standing on his feet as he tried to teach me to dance (step, reach, close) 9. Loved watching old movies. Some of his favorites ( The Yearling, Old Yeller, Bye Bye Birdie) 10. Always there with a listening ear. I have needed him so much at times the past couple of years. 11. Helped babysit my kids while I had to work. 12. Gentle giant. 13. Great smile. 14. Never went anyplace with him that he did not know somebody, if by chance he didn't, he had a new friend before we left. 15. I love and miss my dad so much.

My Poppy: A True Believer of Joseph Smith

Contributor: DdraigGoch Created: 7 months ago Updated: 7 months ago

When I was in middle school & high school, I took many trips from South Carolina to visit my family in Utah. During one visit, my favorite memory of my grandfather (Poppy) was made. I walked into my Granny & Poppy's house in Lindon, Utah on a chilly December day. My Poppy, Lonnie Hadlock, was seated in the living room reading a book as the morning light crept through the windows. As he studiously kept his nose inside the book, I gazed at the photo on the cover of the binding. It was a painting of Joseph Smith. When my Poppy noticed me in the room, he sat the biography of our dear prophet down beside him and looked at me very thoughtfully. I could tell he was about to ask me a question. "Katie, what do you know about the prophet Joseph Smith?" he asked. "I know that he translated the Book of Mormon and restored the church. But not much else," I responded a bit ashamed. My poppy then invited me to sit with him on the forest green, corduroy couch that my Granny kept in impeccable condition. He shared with me his testimony of the prophet and we discussed how important Joseph was in bringing forth the fullness of Christ's gospel to the earth. As we finished our discussion, he looked at me and smiled. With his warm voice he pleaded with me, "Never forget Joseph Smith." Don't worry Poppy, I never will.
