Lawrence Jay Nelson

Mandy Roper was born April 17, 1896 in Oak City, Utah. Her parents were Charlie and Ann Jane (Dutson) Roper and was the fourth child in the family. She was not very healthy as a child and so lived out of doors a great deal of time and grew to like outside work more than housework. As she grew older she became a very healthy girl. She graduated from the district school in Oak City and attended the Millard Academy and graduated. Then she went to Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah for two summers. She taught two years in Lynndyl, Utah (1919-1921) then taught in Beaver, Utah in 1921-1922. From 1922 to 1923 she taught in Leamington and on December 13, 1922 was married to Lawrence J. Nelson by Geo. F. Richards. She continued to teach until the school term was over then they bought some new furniture and started housekeeping. She was very optimistic and always looked on the bright side of everything. She loved to dance and could sing well and play the cornet and whatever she undertook to do it was well done. The last months she lived where the happiest in her life. She died two hours after their baby, a son, was born (September 22, 1923) having been married a little over 10 months. Her baby was buried in the same casket in Oak City, Utah.
