Grandpa Roundy passed away before I was born. Dad would sometimes tell us stories about Grandpa, but I never knew much about him. I think when I was young, maybe 9 or 10 years old, I got pretty upset that I had never met grandpa. For a whole week, I was distraught over the fact. I remember it kind of worrying Dad, so one night he sat down and talked to me about it. I don't remember what he said, but I know it made me feel better. Afterward, we said our nightly prayer. I remember that I had my eyes closed, but I could feel the presence of somebody else in the room, standing beside me. I didn't dare open my eyes, but I could not deny the feeling. I knew Grandpa Roundy was in that room. This experience has always brought me a lot of comfort and since then I've always had a feeling that he's watching over me.
About a month ago, right before I left on my mission, Dad gave me a CD. On it was a whole PDF file that contained my aunt's and uncle's recollections of Grandpa. I popped the CD into my computer one night and read. I was pleased to find out that Grandpa Roundy served his mission fairly close to where I'm serving. Story after story revealed how much he loved and treasured his mission. I took heart knowing that if anyone beyond the veil would be guarding me on my mission, it's Grandpa Roundy.
