Josephine Ora Butler was born April 10, 1905, in Lyman, Madison County, Idaho. She was the fifth of eleven children born to Josias Abram Butler and Eliza Ann Robison. She was raised on the farm in Lyman and attended schools in Lyman. She was baptized a member of the LDS Church on August 2, 1913. Josephine married Ervin Watson Murdock on June 29, 1927, in the Logan, Cache County, Utah LDS Temple. They became the parents of one son and one daughter. They lived in Sugar City most of their married life. Josephine enjoyed crafts, crocheting, flowers, gardening, and genealogy. Ervin preceded Josephine in death on April 3, 1951, at the age of 59. Six years later, their youngest child, Nila Murdock Kienke, joined her father beyond the veil on August 23, 1957, at the age of 22. Josephine passed away at the age of 94 on June 21, 1999, in the Idaho Falls Care Center, Bonneville County, Idaho. Funeral services were held on the following Friday at the Sugar City LDS Stake Center with Bishop Robert Worrell officiating. She was laid to rest in the Sugar City Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel of Rigby.

RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early hours of 15 April 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. There were an estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, and more than 1,500 died, making it one of the deadliest commercial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history. RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time it entered service and was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line. It was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. Thomas Andrews, her architect, died in the disaster.
