Joseph Ferris Hoover, 26, of 658 E. 100 N., Pleasant Grove, died Friday morning in an airplane crash. He was born Nov. 7, 1948 in Provo, a son of Joseph R. and Vaudys Forsgren Hoover. He married Diane Anderson May 5, 1967 in Orem. He received his education in Orem city schools, graduating from Orem High School. He and his wife lived in Orem for six years before moving to Pleasant Grove. He worked for Pittsburgh-Des Moine [Des Moines] Steel Co. and Boyer Automotive prior to working at Samon's in Bountiful where he worked for the past 18 months. He was a member of the Church [LDS] in the Pleasant Grove Sixth Ward. Survivors include his widow; two sons and one daughter, Russell J., Dustin S. and Natalie D. Hoover, all of Pleasant Grove.; father and stepmother, Orem; mother, Mesa, Ariz.; grandparents, Mrs. Lillian T. Hoover, Provo Canyon; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Forsgren, Howell, Box Elder County, and one sister, Mrs. Norman (Connie Marie) Farnsworth, Orem. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Berg Drawing Room Chapel in Provo, where friends may call one hour prior to services. -Source: Provo Daily Herald, 24 Aug 1975, p.4; transcribed by Annie Duckett Hundley. ______________ PLANE MISHAP FATAL TO FOUR While a scoutmaster and members of his troop watched helplessly from the ground, a small plane carrying the scoutmaster's brother and three others crashed Friday near the hikers in the High Uintas Primitive Area, killing all four. Duchesne County authorities said all four men were killed instantly in the crash. Arnold Wilson, scoutmaster, said the single-engine craft appeared to stall out. He said the Piper Cherokee then went into a steep dive, crashing near the scout troop. Victims were identified as Gene Wilson, 41, of Springville, pilot of the aircraft; David Brent Bird, 35, of Salt Lake City; Joseph Ferris Hoover, 36 [26], of Pleasant Grove; and George A. Lux, 26, of Lehi.

Joseph Ferris Hoover was 7 years old when Disneyland Hotel opens to the public in Anaheim, California. The Disneyland Hotel is a resort hotel located at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, owned by the Walt Disney Company and operated through its Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products division. Opened on October 5, 1955, as a motor inn owned and operated by Jack Wrather under an agreement with Walt Disney, the hotel was the first to officially bear the Disney name. Under Wrather's ownership, the hotel underwent several expansions and renovations over the years before being acquired by Disney in 1988. The hotel was downsized to its present capacity in 1999 as part of the Disneyland Resort expansion.
