Thanks to the contribution of a helpful family member, pieces of the oral family history, passed from my father Robert Thompson, and grandfather Alma Thompson, have perhaps come more closely together, regarding the story: "One of our family (at some point and duration) rode in the front seat of Brigham Young's wagon, on the trip to Utah". The reference to John Orson Thompson, found in the reference book: "Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah", mentions his wife: "Lucy Maria Groves (daughter of Elisha H. Groves and Lucy Simmons, pioneers 1848, Brigham Young Company)."There is the distinct possibility, the oral history passed down in my family, was regarding a member of the Lucy Maria Groves family, and may even be relating to her sister Patience Sibyl Groves, since the sisters apparently remained close throughout their lives.

Petroleum is a naturally occurring, yellow-to-black liquid found in geological formations beneath the Earth's surface. It is commonly refined into various types of fuels. Components of petroleum are separated using a technique called fractional distillation, i.e. separation of a liquid mixture into fractions differing in boiling point by means of distillation, typically using a fractionating column.
John Orson Thompson was 25 years old when Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton founded the National Woman Suffrage Association, breaking away from the American Equal Rights Association which they had also previously founded. Susan B. Anthony was an American social reformer and women's rights activist who played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement. Born into a Quaker family committed to social equality, she collected anti-slavery petitions at the age of 17. In 1856, she became the New York state agent for the American Anti-Slavery Society.
