STRUCK DEAD. ACCIDENT ON A PUNT. : At about ,half-past four o'clock yesterday afternoon an elderly man.named Michael Egan met with an accident which terminated fatally, on a hopper attached to the Government tug Ceres. ' The tug had towed the hopper, which was Iaden with silt from one of the dredges, out to sea, and was returning to port when the accident occurred. The contents of the hopper had been dlscharged, and Egan was heaving up the doors, when, during a heavy roll of the sea, the handles of the gear got away from him. and struck him violently on the head, killing him almost instantly."On returning to port the tug put in at the wharf and the matter was reported to the police. The deceased was a married man, and leaves a wife and family at Patrick street, Junction. The fatality will be the subject of a coroner's inquest at the Clarendon Hotel at half past ten o'clock this morning.
