Janie L. Brown Nesmith "MeMa" 1945 - 2011 Born January 2, 1945 passed away May 22, 2011. Janie was born in Avenal, California to Joe and Nora Bridgewater and resided in Bakersfield for most of her life. She came from a large family and helped to raise her brothers and sisters: Garland, Ricky, Billy, Russell, Shewanna and Pauline. She was married at age 17 to Tommy Brown and had four children: Tracey, Donna, Paul and Kay-Cee. They were married for 33 years before his passing in 1995. She was a waitress for many years until she decided to go to college and get her teaching credentials. She worked for MAOF for 32 years as a computer teacher helping many people find their way in the business world. She was very loved and respected by many people. She met her second husband Howard "Pa Pa" in 1999. They loved spending time with their family especially their six grandchildren: Mariah, Brandon, Tommie, Kambria, Ashley and Kevin. Janie loved cooking big meals, and having everyone gather around the table. Janie was an avid history buff. She loved researching her family genealogy and getting in touch with long lost relatives. She also loved working in the garden, whether it be flowers or vegetables. She took pride in trimming her plants and watering them by hand everyday. Everyone that knows Janie can tell you that she never stopped. From the second she got out of bed to the moment her head hit the pillow. She was a force to be reckoned with. She always put everyone else's need before her own. We will miss her greatly. Viewing will be held Thursday, May 26th, from 12:00 to 7:00pm at Mission Funeral Home at 531 California Ave. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 27th, at 10:00am at Union Cemetery. www.bakersfield.com/obits
