Obituary for James William Buckley
04/18/2018James William Buckley, 72, of Cokeville died suddenly at his home "Wednesday, Dec 8, 1976 of a heart attack.
Funeral services were held Sat, Dec 11, at 1 pm in the Cokeville Ward Chapel, with Bp. Leo Cornia conducting. Burial was in ;the Cokeville Cit Cemetery.
Bill, as he was known by all, was born Nov 21 1904 in Logan, Utah to James W. and Elizabeth Ann Kennington Buckley. He spent his boyhood in Logan, Utah and Bancroft, Idaho, moving to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1919, where he met and married Cecelia Isabelle Shields Nov 29, 1926. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Canadian LDS Temple in Cardston, Alberta, Canada.
Mr. and Mrs. Buckley celebrated their golden "50th" wedding anniversary on Nov 19, 1976, just one month ago.
Bill was an active member in the LDS Church and was a High Priest in the Cokeville Ward where he was serving as assistant ward clerk and a home teacher at the time of his death.
Bill was also active in civic affairs. He was a member of the LIncoln County A.S.C. Committee for 25 years, being chairman for 12 years; also a member of the Lincoln county Weed and Pest Board, Soil Conservation Board and several years on the Lncoln County Fair Board and at the time of his death was deputy assessor for the Cokeville area.
Bill always had a warm smile and a friendly handshake for all he knew and met. His greatest pride and joy was in his family and he will be loved and remembered for his many "pet sayings" and sound advice. He was powerful in strength, leadership and guidance to his family, and in his ability to stimulate and activate others. He had room in his heart to feel the concerns and problems of his fellow man, and time to do something about them. He loved the out-of-doors and nature, and spent much of his live enjoying it.
He is survived by his widow and two sons, Joseph James and William Shields of Cokeville; four daughters, Mrs. Grant (Donnella) Dean of Woodruff, Utah; Mrs. Blaine (Betty) of Big Piney, Wyoming; Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Ellis of Diamondville, Wyoming; and Mrs. Earl (Afton) Condie of Evanston, Wyo; 33 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Irene) Harris and Mrs. Elmer (Elizabeth) Harris, both of Ogden, Utah; Mrs. Frank (Mary) Geer of Burbank, Calif; and Mrs. Ralph (Joann) Alley of Laramie, Wyoming.
Two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Cecelia Isabelle Shields Buckley died at her home in Cokeville, Wyoming on June 6, 1980. Cecelia had been under the care of her sister, Wanda Pugmire, in her home for the past six weeks.
Mrs. Buckley was born February 25, 1908 in Magna, Utah to Joseph Jenkins Shields and Caroline Bice Shields. She graduated fro Sandpoint Hight School May 26, 1926.
She married James William Buckley on November 29, 1926 in Sandpoint, Idaho. This marriage was solemnized in the Cardston, Alberta Temple July 18, 1928. She and her husband moved to Cokeville in June 1930 and have lived in the Cokeville area for the past 50 years. They lived on a ranch 12 miles south of Cokeville for 40 years, raising their family of six children there. She and her husband Bill celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November of 1976. He passed away a month after that important event in their lives.
Grandma Buckley, as she was lovingly referred to by her many friends, enjoyed walking and was often seen on main street walking to and from town. Cecelia was an active and devoted member of the LDS Church. She faithfully served in many positions over the years, among these were Primary President for 12 years, Relief 'Society Counselor and Geneological Librarian Missionary for 11 years.
Mrs Buckley is survived by two sons, Joseph James and William Shields Buckley, of Cokeville; daughter, Mrs Grant (Donnella) Dean, Woodruff, Utah, Mrs. Blaine (Betty) Hoffman, Big Piney, Wyoming, Mrs. Robert (Audrey) Ellis, Kemmerer, Wyoming, and Mrs. Earl (Afton) Condie of Evanstion, Wyoming; thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Wanda Pugmire, and brother Lee Shields, of Salt Lake City, and a brother, Athol Shields, of Priest River, Idaho.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 10 in the Cokeville Ward chapel.
