James W. Chadburn

HISTORY OF JAMES WILLIAM CHADBURN As written by George and AIta Chadburn James William Chadburn was born 16th of February, 1882, son of Henry Chadburn and Mary Dorinda Lloyd. He lived his early years on the Chadburn Ranch where he was taught to work and had many responsibilities, being among the older children. None of the Chadburn boys were raised without being taught to work, and to be honest in their dealings with others. These were wonderful traits passed down to all of the family. _ He married Elisabeth Holt the l5th, of March,l904, in the St. George Temple. She was the daughter of Henry D. Holt and Alice Eveline Hunt. They had eleven children born to them. Jim died the 13th of December 1961 in St. George where he and his wife had made their home for many years. Elizabeth died on the 9th of October, 1959 and both of them are buried in the St. George cemetery. A son William Henry, died the 21st of February 1921 the day he was born. Jim Lloyd was killed in a car accident the 20th of June 1944. The other children were Marie, Wynema or Helen, Britta, James Clark. Ruby Alice, Barbara, Paul Holt, Gene Burke, and Dorothy. James William, lived with his family on a ranch near the Chadburn Ranch and did a fine job of making a good living under the circumstances. He was a good musician and his wife played the piano and all their children were musically inclined. One son James Clark was good at the piano as well as other instruments. He had is own orchestra in Las Vegas, Nevada and then later in Page, Arizona. Jim raised hay, grain, potatoes, fruits, and vegetables. He fed cattle in the winter to help make a living. He moved from Pine Valley for the winter months to get his children in school. George stayed with him one winter and went to school. He also spent one winter in Gunlock and one of 11 is children was born They later moved to Central for the winter and run the J.J. ranch in the summers. Jim was active in church work while living in Central for he acted as Superintendent of the Sunday School. In 1917 he moved to S1. George, Utah where he had a farm and he built a nice brick home in town. He run the mail truck to Mount Trumball for a good many years. When he lost his mail contract he spent several years on Cedar mountain, taking care of sheep. He was a very like able person having many friends. We visited Jim and Liz a good many times, they were very good to us, we always had to have a meal with them before we left, no matter what time of day it was. We have never forgot their kindness.
