Headstone Description

His Wife: Gertrude(DuBois) Oakley (1846 - 1903) James H Oakley of Highland died on Friday morning, April 12, at the residence of Elting Harp in this village. He had been taken ill a short time before and was too feeble to be taken home. A short time before he had been seriously ill at the home of his son-in-law, Benj. Johnston. He was 71 years of age. Mr. Oakley was a native of the Stone Ridge neighborhood. He served in the army in the 15th Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers. He was twice married. His 2nd wife was Gertrude, daughter of Daniel A DuBois. They had two daughters, both of whom are dead. The funeral was in the New Paltz M.E.church on Monday. From the New Paltz Independent April 19, 1918
