John Thirkell.....Born in Cranbrook, Kent, Eng. Died in Wellsville, Utah. Married to Mary Baynes Brown-Born.
Children: Sarah, Jemima, Caroline, Mary, Rebecca, Emily, Henrietta.
John and his family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, (LDS), in England and they were prophesied that they would go to Utah, and experience hunger. His prophesy was fulfilled soon after they arrived in Utah. After a bitter winter discouraged saints ready to leave Cache Valley, met on the 4th of July, 1857, at the Wellsville Bowery. John stood pointing to the Logan East Bench and prophesied that a temple would be built there among many homes. He told the people to be steadfast, and God would temper the elements in the valley. This is the first recorded vision of this temple, and he lived to see the prophecy fulfilled. He made the first real bricks in Cache Valley using them to ran addition to his home. the first apples and black native currents were brought to the valley by John. When Brigham Young visited, the trees had 20 apples, two of which were given for tithing.
William Frederick Darley....BORN STOKE, DAMEREL, DEVONSHIRE, ENG. WILLIAM WAS A SHIPWRIGHT APPRENTICE IN ENGLAND. THERE, HE AND HIS MOTHER JOINED THE L.D.S. CHURCH. IN 1853 HE CAME ALONE TO AMERICAN, MET THE THIRKELLS AND CROSSED THE PLAINS WITH THEM. HE HAD THE DARLEY DAIRY AT THE MOUTH OF SARDINE CANYON AND THE DARLEY STORE ON MAIN STREET IN WELLSVILLE, AND WAS A MASTR CARPENTER, FRAMER, JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, POSTMASTER AND WELLSVILLE'S 4TH MAYOR. MAKING HIS WAY FROM ONE END OF TOWN TO THE OTHER VISING THE HOMES OF THE BLIND, BEDFAST AND OTHER SHUT-INS, READING AND DISCUSSING THE NEW WITH THEM.
