John enlisted from Carterton for WWI. He served as Private 10/260 with the Wellington Infantry Battalion, Main Body. His next of kin was Mrs Mary Bubbers, Spalding, Lincolnshire, England.

The death occurred on Thursday at the Brisbane Public Hospital of Mr Henry John Bubbers, of 12 Sussex Street, Masterton. The late Mr Bubbers, who was a returned soldier, had gone to Brisbane for the benefit of his health. While on active service he was badly gassed and in consequence his health had been somewhat impaired for some time past. He was born at Farnborough, Kent, forty -seven years ago and is survived by a widow and two daughters, to whom the sympathy of a large number of friends will be extended in their great misfortune. The body is to be cremated and the ashes brought to Masterton for subsequent interment.
