I learned about my father's abilities as a teacher when I signed up for a handball class in 1962-3 at BYU. My instructor was Lavell Edwards, who later became BYU's most outstanding football coach. On the first day of my class he called the roll and asked if I was related to George Ashby. He then told the whole class that George was his favorite teacher when he attended school at Lincoln jr. High in Orem. He was strict and very well liked. I later learned, from looking at my priesthood line of authority, that Lavell's father (Philo Edwards) had ordained my father to be a high priest. I was a shoe-in to get an A out of my handball class and I did. Ray Lavon Ashby
