Evan Wride

Evan Wride was a native of Wales and was born February 17, 1843, near Cardiff, Wales, the son of Thomas Wride and Ann James. He was the eldest in a family of eleven children. In his young life he took many prizes in his farm work. He was visited by the Mormon missionaries in 1865 and converted to the church soon after. Before leaving Wales he married Martha Ann Jones on June 29, 1868 and they left for America in July 1868. They arrived in Provo, Utah in September 1868 and son bought a home on 7th West and Center. He served as counselor and then bishop of the Provo Second Ward. He also served as a member of the Utah Stake High Council. He was willing and able to go and administer to the sick, give counsel and advice to those in need and Eden perform marriages. His first wife passed away April 1890 in Provo leaving four children. He married Phebe Trulove Ward February 16, 1887 in the Logan temple. He served a mission to his native land and on the Provo school board for over 25 years. In serving in such a touristy area I have met many from the British Isles on vacation her. One sweet English lady told me of the Welsh people that the speak in sing song voices and have a naturally cheery and light disposition. I imagine Evan Wride was no exception and was a cheery man.
