Row 15, Plan II, Chandos & his parents. :: Chandos was killed in a car accident on the Hutt road. He and 18 year old Miss Ivy Adeline Byron of Tinakori Rd were sitting on the folded-down hood of the car in a improvised dicky-seat, behind 3 people in the seat. They were returning to Wellington from Upper Hutt. When near Naenae Rd the driver, Chandos's brother Charles Thomas 'Tom' Batkin (1891-1963), also of Clareville, suddenly realised they were no longer sitting on the hood. They were found lying on the road. Ivy was dead, Chandos was taken to hospital but died within 5 hours. :: Brother Charles moved to Australia and died in NSW
