Elsie May Knapp Larsen Mission in Texas 1968

Contributor: dvdmovieking Created: 1 year ago Updated: 1 year ago

I want to put a paper write up here along with a copy of the words to a song she wrote about her Texas mission. A MISSION DOWN IN TEXAS There's a mission down in Texas, we love with all our hearts, No other mission's like her, we loved her from the start, There's the Angelo and the Spanish, all children of our Lord; We meet together often and we join in one accord. Oh!, the mission down in Texas, the biggest and the best, The Lone Star State is grandest, it out shines all the rest; We love to talk and reminisce about the days of yore, Oh !, the mission down in Texas will be ours for evermore. When it's round-up time in Texas, and the bloom is on the sage. How I long to be in Texas-a riding on the range, The purple hue is brilliant--Blue bonnet flowers you'll see, Oh !, the grand old State of Texas is the place for you and me. The State Tree is the Pecan, they love its nut to eat, They find it very tender, the morsel very sweet. The big oak tree is grander, it stands so tall and proud, Just like our missionary it stands above the crowd. "Ya All" do this, "Ya All" do that, is what they like to say, And when you leave they always say, "Ya all come back someday." And don't forget the Cardinal with colors bright and clear, It brings you back to Texas, with memories fond and dear.. San to the tune of "There's A Yellow Rose of Texas." Words of this song written by Elsie May Knapp Larsen..

Elsie planting garden song

Contributor: dvdmovieking Created: 1 year ago Updated: 1 year ago

I would like to put here a picture along with a write up in a news paper about Elsie planting garden and the words to a song she wrote. I couldn't figure out how to put the write up and picture but here is the song. (sing to the tune of "Mocking Bird Hill".) When the sun in the morning Creeps over the hill We're joyous and happy, We'll work with a will. We will pick up our shovels And water and hoe, And go to plant garden It's springtime, you know. When the seedlings are planted We'll watch them with care. We'll pray for the rain drops, And sun and fresh air. There'll be turnips and onions, Red beets and green peas, Potatoes and lettuce And raspberry trees. Tomatoes and string beans-- These give me a thrill, And Corn and cucumbers We'll plant in a hill. We will plant a few zenia's And pansies so sweet, And people will see them When they pass down our street. Tra la la tweedly de de There's peace and good will To work out in my garden It gives me a thrill. News paper article: Spring inspires woman, 86 to write poem of gardening. For most people memories of spring are lace with fresh smells of out-of-doors, blossoming fruit trees and pleasant warmth of sunshine replacing gray wintry skies. Elsie May Larsen Keppner of Rexburg has many springs to remember. But the quantity, 86 to be exact, hasn't dulled her senses to the sight, smells, sounds and feel of spring. "I still love them. As long as I'm able to work I'm going to love them, " she says. Mrs. Keppner says she thinks spring is her favorite time of the year. "It's kind of an awakening after a long winter," she says. This year for Mother's Day she wrote a poem to the tune of, "Mockingbird Hill". It reflects the excitement she feels when she's able to join her husband of seven years, Lehi, in planting a garden and flowers. She says she got up one morning and thought, "It's such a beautiful morning and it's time to plant a garden so I'm just going to write a little garden poem. So that's just what I did ! She says after she started writing she thought maybe she could put her words to a tune, "Mockingbird Hill" came to her mind and it seemed to fit just right, she says. Above are the words to her song.
