Jenav (pronounced Jenavee) was born in 1893 in Pleasant Grove, the fourth child of Daniel and Margaret Smith. All of her 8 siblings grew to adulthood and married. She had an attack of spinal meningitis at about age 5, but was healed after a Priesthood blessing. She graduated from 8th grade among the four highest in scholarship. She started high school but was unable to continue due to a nervous breakdown. She attended the LDS Business College for 2 years and also studied piano. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She helped her husband on the farm and with the custodial work at the school. She was an exact person, wanting things to be done on time. Her ambition was to have her children succeed in school and get an education. Many nights she would go over their lessons with them to see that they were prepared for the next day. She died in 1974 of complications of diabetes and a stroke at the age of 80.

Daniel was the second of 10 children born to Daniel and Emma Smith. He was born in 1866 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Daniel was baptized at the age of 11. He married Margaret Emeretta White in 1885 in Pleasant Grove when he was 18 and she was 20. They had 9 children, one of whom was Jenav who married Albert John Olsen. Daniel died in Pleasant Grove in 1934 at the age of 68.

Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park", he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention, and is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.

Louis Pasteur was a French biologist, microbiologist and chemist renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. He is remembered for his remarkable breakthroughs in the causes and prevention of diseases, and his discoveries have saved many lives ever since. He reduced mortality from puerperal fever, and created the first vaccines for rabies and anthrax. His medical discoveries provided direct support for the germ theory of disease and its application in clinical medicine. He is best known to the general public for his invention of the technique of treating milk and wine to stop bacterial contamination, a process now called pasteurization. He is regarded as one of the three main founders of bacteriology, together with Ferdinand Cohn and Robert Koch, and is popularly known as the "father of microbiology".
