Grandpa lived in Rexburg and we lived in Terreton. I remember he would drive out a few times each week, he would of been in his mid eighties at this time. He would usually tell us some memory of his. The one I remember most is from his early twenties. He just was starting out with his own farm and hired someone to thrash his grain. He thought he could do it himself cheaper. He bought his own machine for the next season and thrashed his grain and the neighbors also. He said he did so well another machine was purchased the next year. He continued thrashing grain and expanding his farm. He had done well. The depression hit and he still had his machines and money. He told us that he was able to purchase many properties by just paying the back taxes and that is what really helped his livelihood.

Grandpa's Rocks

Contributor: finnsh Created: 1 year ago Updated: 1 year ago

I have heard lots of stories about my great-great grandpa Earial. He collected lots of rocks that are very pretty. We have kept them for a long time. He polished them up and made necklaces, rings, bolo ties, belt buckles and many other things. He would go and mine his own opals. I love rocks just like him. I with that I could go mine my own opals just like him. If he was still alive today he would be 115 years old. I know that it probably wouldn't be realistic but I wish that he was still alive so he could teach me all about rocks. Written by Taylor Petersen 2016

Great Grandpa would drive out to Terreton from Rexburg quite often. As kids we loved it when he stopped by because he would always give us a coin or two. One time I remember having a wart on my arm by my elbow. (I was early elementary age) My mom told me to show it to Great Grandpa. Of course I showed it to him and he told me that he would buy my wart and it would go away. I really didn't believe him but I figured at least I would get some more money. I think it was 25 cents he paid for it. Part of way the system work is you are suppose to spend the money also. Luckily we happened to go to Country Cash (the little candy store in Terreton) soon after and I bought me some candy. I forgot about my wart until Great Grandpa came back out and asked about my wart. I was shocked to see it was gone. I don't know how he made it happened but it worked I was sure to tell my cousins and siblings if I saw they had a wart. When I was older, many years later, I was at Great Grandpa and Grandma's house visiting. Great Grandpa was outside and I was still curious about my wart and I asked him what happens to all the warts he buys. He told me he had a box full of warts buried in his shed. I hope I never find that box.

Nicholas II or Nikolai II, known as Saint Nicholas in the Russian Orthodox Church, was the last Emperor of Russia, ruling from 1 November 1894 until his forced abdication on 15 March 1917. His reign saw the fall of the Russian Empire from one of the foremost great powers of the world to economic and military collapse. He was given the nickname Nicholas the Bloody or Vile Nicholas by his political adversaries due to the Khodynka Tragedy, anti-Semitic pogroms, Bloody Sunday, the violent suppression of the 1905 Russian Revolution, the executions of political opponents, and his perceived responsibility for the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). Soviet historians portray Nicholas as a weak and incompetent leader whose decisions led to military defeats and the deaths of millions of his subjects.

World War II, also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although conflicts reflecting the ideological clash between what would become the Allied and Axis blocs began earlier. The vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—eventually formed two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most global war in history; it directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In a state of total war, the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. World War II was the deadliest conflict in human history, marked by 50 to 85 million fatalities, most of whom were civilians in the Soviet Union and China. It included massacres, the genocide of the Holocaust, strategic bombing, premeditated death from starvation and disease and the only use of nuclear weapons in war.
