His valuable experiments with bees and artificial queen-rearing, to prevent spring swarming, is world-wide practice now. He was directed to establish the first Mormon church sponsored Agricultural College in New Zeland. A cyclone destroyed it, but its prototype near Hamilton, on the South Island is in full operation. His wife was a life-long school teacher.
