Mrs. Anna Behnke
Mrs. Anna Behnke, 83, former Hilbert resident, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton, after suffering a stroke eight days ago.
Born Sept. 19,1873, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Koffarnus, she was one of 14 children born in a log cabin about four miles southwest of Hilbert in the Town of Chilton. Her parents were pioneer settlers in the area.
She lived in the immediate vivinity all of her life with the exception of the past year when she made her home with a son, Osar, at 530 N. Lawe St., Appleton.
She was married to Herman Behnke on May 26, 1897, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Hilbert, and he died Aug. 27, 1939. She was a lifelong member of that church and a charter member of the Ladies’ Aid Society.
Survivors are six sons, Oscar and Walter of Appleton, Louis of Neenah, Arno of Reedsville, Herman Jr. and George of Hilbert; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, George of Hilbert, Joe of Welcome, Minn., and William of Abbotsford, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Hillman of Town Rantoul and Mrs. Charles (Louisa) Raabe of Appleton.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Popitzke-Schinderle Funeral Home at Hilbert and at 2 o’clock at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Hilbert. The Rev. Martin Schneider will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
