I am changing this record because the information on the gravestone has been misinterpreted.
I am a direct descendant of Alzbeta Pokorney Svoboda. She was my grandfather's paternal grandmother. I visited this cemetery often as a child with my grandfather to pay respects, bring flowers, etc. I am absolutely certain of what I am saying here based on firsthand information passed on directly from my grandfather, who had living memory of Alzbeta. He was 43 when she died and lived to be nearly 101 himself.
The mistake is interpreting "Svoboda" as Anna's maiden name. She was a daughter of Anna Pokorney. "Svoboda" was the surname of Alzbeta's first husband. When he died, he told her to take their two sons (Anton and Joseph) to America, as there was "nothing for you" in Bohemia.
When Alzbeta got to the US, she eventually remarried and her surname became "Klema," which is what you see engraved here. She had two daughters with her second husband.
If you are a genealogist or family member researching this family line, please make note of this information, as it will make your search much easier. It's a complicated blended family during this period and difficult enough to sort out without complicating the search further with misinformation.
