Adriana was like a shooting star. Burning bright but fleeting, she left us with Love.

Adriana loved blankets. She would suck on them, and snuggle with them, but the best memory I have of her with her blanket is when she was in the PICU. She was in the hospital for breathing problems yet again. She would pull her blanket over her face and sleep. With all the lights on it was a great way for her to have it a little darker and quieter. Anyway as I was sitting with her reading a book, a male nurse came into the room and saw that she had a blanket on her face. He made the comment that she couldn't have the blanket on her face and moved the blanket. As soon as he moved the blanket he left the room. Suddenly all the alarms went off. I quietly got up and calmed her and put the blanket back. About 30 minutes later the same nurse came back to give her some medicine, saw the blanket and took it off again. As he left the room, all the alarms went off again. Anyway I went back to reading and about 15 minutes the nurse was walking by her room and saw the blanket. He took the blanket off and was telling me off when the doctor came in and asked what was going on. While the nurse told him about the blanket, I went and comforted Adriana stroking her face with the blanket. Listening to the nurse and the doctor, I was hearing the nurse finish telling the doctor that every time he went by she had a blanket on her face and how dangerous it was. At this point I put the blanket back on her face. Turning around the nurse tried to tell me again that I shouldn't have the blanket on her face. As her reached to take the blanket away, the doctor said "Don't touch that blanket." See the doctor had known us from several previous visits and knew Adriana loved her blanket. Anyway he proceeded to tell the nurse that since she was on a ventilator through her trach, there was little chance of her smothering. He also told him that if anyone touched that blanket again they would be written up. Morale of the story, Don't touch her blanket.
